Lorenzo Franci
My vision of design is grounded in the idea of it as a language that unites rigor and imagination, aesthetics and meaning.
In my projects, I consistently seek the intersection of different disciplines, with a focus not only on form and function, but above all on what remains impressed in the user’s experience.
The aim is to bring to life objects and systems that go beyond immediate use, leaving a lasting trace through memory and emotion.
Some experiences
-
I had the opportunity to collaborate with Studio Azzurro, the Milan-based art collective that since 1982 has pioneered video art, sensitive environments and interactive installations in Italy. Working alongside their team, I refined my technique with video editing software and learned how exhibition spaces are conceived and installed, exploring the storytelling behind sensitive environments and interactive paths — experiences where the space responds to the presence and gestures of the visitor. visit ↗

In the 2025-2026 academic year I worked as a teaching tutor at the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, supporting a laboratory for the students of the bachelor’s degree in Product Design. I followed the course dedicated to 3D modelling with Rhinoceros and to the rendering part in Blender, working alongside the students during the exercises — from building the model to setting up materials, lighting and the final images.

In 2025, I took part in the James Dyson Award with the project Halia, developed together with my team, and we were selected as national finalists. Halia is a therapeutic system for asthma care that combines an inhaler made of molded pulp with a digital application designed to help users monitor and follow their treatment in a sustainable and guided way. visit ↗

In 2024, I did an internship at the architecture and interior design studio ‘Studio Associato Cuzzani - Merlo Pich’. During this experience, I delved into the process of creating interior structures and furnishings, gaining a greater mastery of software such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Blender, Fusion, and SketchUp. In addition, I created the firm’s website using WordPress.

In 2024, I participated in an initiative proposed by the University of Bologna, in collaboration with the Metropolitan City of Bologna within the framework of the LIFE Climax Po project, developing the “What(er) is left” project for the Po River Blue Fest, a diffuse festival focused on the adaptation of water resources to the climate crisis. visit ↗

In June 2024 I had the opportunity to present the project “What(er) is left” in Faenza during the workshop organised by the Union of Romagna Faentina in collaboration with the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna within the URBAN DIGITAL WORKSHOPS of the ATUSS UNION OF THE ROMAGNA FAENTINA, for the dissemination of digital culture in a territory without barriers and without peripheries. I also carried out a tutoring activity in support of the girls who participated in the workshop. visit ↗

I had the opportunity to enrich my education by participating in the ‘Circes: Skills for Future People’ project, an initiative that aims to prepare future designers for the challenges of sustainable design. During this project, my group and I presented ‘fold.away’, a sustainable solution in the catering industry that we developed to meet the principles of circular design. The project stood out as one of the best in a workshop held at the University of Bologna ‘Alma Mater Studiorum’.

In 2022 I had the opportunity to contribute to the design of the visual communication for the 5×1000 campaign of the ‘Gramsci Foundation - ER’. This experience was enriched by the collective effort and collaboration with my team, emphasising the power of working together towards a shared goal.
